Gumbo and Grace
Gumbo and Grace is the new blog of Pastor Johnny Touchet of Mount Moriah Baptist Church- better known as Brother Johnny. He is known as the Ragin Cajun by some, raised in New Orleans, saved by the grace of God, set apart for gospel ministry by the living Lord Jesus Christ, husband of Kerry, and proud father of six children! Some of Johnny’s best thoughts come when he’s been plowing through the Scriptures and stops long enough to get a little gumbo!
Who did you vote for? The question was asked by some friends and I said … They said “how could you vote for him?” They then proceeded to give me numerous reasons I shouldn’t have. Some were good and others not so good. But all of us agree we want less government and more freedom to prosper! Which brings me to this thought….Where does less government and more freedom come from? Is that Christian? And if so how does that affect my voting? How do I live? I’m not trying to cover every angle of voting or anything like that (Dr Paul Dean has done that at Trueworldeview.com…I encourage you to check him out), but just wanted to give some thoughts on how we should live during election time.
Pray for Election…1st Timothy 2:1 First of all, then, I urge that aentreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men,
2 afor kings and all who are in 1authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and 2dignity.
We need to pray for candidates who will allow us to live out gospel in peace for God’s Glory! We need to pray for all those who are working in government to be blessed.
Participate in Election… Romans 13:1 Every 1aperson is to be in bsubjection to the governing authorities. For cthere is no authority except 2from God, and those which exist are established by God. [2]
Now we understand subjection means to be under the government laws except when it contradicts the clear teaching of God (ie-abortion). In so many places Christian brothers and sisters do not have the privilege to vote, but in our country we have been blessed by God to have not only the right but responsibility to vote! Remember, freedom is a Christian principle because we have been set free by God. Without God, freedom really has no basis in life.(later blog). Do your homework on all the candidates to see who matches up with your values best. Then vote your conscience.
Put your trust in God…Psalm 20: 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in bhorses;
But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
Th The best of the candidates at the end of the day is still just a man or woman, who is a sinner who needs grace, and is a fallible tool in the hand of a infallible God! As Christians, we must remember Romans 8:28, which tells us God is working all things for good for his children no matter who is elected! No President, no congressman, no senator, can stop the work of grace in a believer’s life! Does that mean we don’t care? NO- we do care about the life God has blessed us with but at the end of the day we are to Love GOD more than anything we have ever been blessed with…
